Deron Williams, Kris Humphries & Co. will wear the 1972-1976 ABA Nets "stars and stripes" road uniform.
The Nets unveiled this uniform in February 1972, when they moved into their brand new home - the Nassau Coliseum. Roy Boe was the new owner of the Nets at the time, and his wife Deon actually designed the uniforms. They were widely regarded as colorful and creative.
An obvious inspiration for Mrs. Boe's design was the ABA uniform previously used by the Los Angeles Stars from 1968 to 1970. The Los Angeles Clippers have adopted that same Stars uniform as their 2012 throwback. The Clippers visit the Nets on March 7, 2012. However, to avoid obvious problems and confusion, only the Nets will wear their throwback uniform in that game.
The Nets played in three ABA Finals, and won the ABA title twice, (1973-74 and 1975-76) using these uniforms. Two Hall of Fame players wore this jersey with the ABA Nets: Rick Barry and Julius "Dr. J" Erving (#32, at left photos). |
